Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do philosophy

The philosophy of JKD emphasizes self-awareness, self-expression, and living in the moment. Bruce Lee believed that JKD was not just a fighting system, but a way of life that could be applied to all aspects of one’s existence.

JKD has had a profound impact on the world of martial arts, and its influence can be seen in many modern MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) techniques and philosophies. JKD is a dynamic and evolving martial art that continues to inspire practitioners around the globe. Jeet Kune Do is the backbone of the Rapid Assault Tactics and we offer private training in both. Jeet Kune Do's principles

  • Be like water: Water is fluid, adaptable, and can conform to any shape. JKD practitioners strive to be like water in their movements and their approach to fighting.
  • Use only what works: JKD is not concerned with fancy techniques or flashy moves. Instead, it emphasizes using only the techniques that are most effective in a given situation.
  • Adapt and overcome: JKD practitioners are constantly learning and adapting. They are not afraid to change their approach if something is not working.
  • Express yourself: JKD is about self-expression. Practitioners are encouraged to develop their own unique style of fighting.

What Martial Arts make up JKD?

Jeet Kune Do, founded by the legendary Bruce Lee, is a hybrid martial art and philosophy that emphasizes fluidity, adaptability, and practical self-defence. It draws upon various martial arts disciplines to create a unique and versatile fighting style.

Wing Chun: Considered the foundation of Jeet Kune Do, Wing Chun is a Chinese martial art characterized by its close-range fighting techniques, emphasis on hand and arm movements, and focus on centerline control.

Beyond these core disciplines, Jeet Kune Do also incorporates elements from other martial arts, such as grappling techniques from Judo and Jujutsu, and weapons training from Filipino Eskrima and Kali.

This amalgamation of martial arts styles allows JKD to adapt to various fighting scenarios and develop a comprehensive approach to self-defence.
